Who Are We?
Mothers Monument is an arm of Mothers Legacy Project, a non-profit organization with consultative status at the United Nations. We have presented multiple panels there addressing issues surrounding maternal welfare. Additionally we have partnered with other NGO’s (non-governmental organizations) to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and foster development of various projects around the world and in the United States.
What is Our Purpose?
Public artwork in cities’ green spaces is an effective way to share ideas and inspire communities to action. Memorials cover our cities, parks and museums, honoring the courage and sacrifice of soldiers, civil rights and political leaders. But even though more mothers die from childbirth than soldiers die from war, not a single memorial exists to honor their courage and sacrifice. Mothers Monument seeks to build such memorials, to remind citizens that we have the science to prevent maternal mortality, and to unite us in action to address the maternal health problems that are most prevalent locally. They will also prompt us to strategically build our cities and settlements in a way to be safe places for mothers, who need access to sanitation, public transportation, and better hospitals, among other things.
The memorials we build will motivate communities to work together to ensure the safety of childbearing women. By ensuring their safety, we help ensure the stability and resiliency of families, cities and ultimately, nations as a whole.
